For PIE, e.g. *weik^-s and *weik^-tlo- (hence Lat. vi:lla), both
meaning 'dwelling-place, homestead'.

<ferculum> need not be old. The unsyncopated form <fericulum> also
exists. Compare new <vehiculum> vs. older <ve:lum>
