1. You are right: I cannot derived it from PIE *5...at least not yet
2. BUT phonetically: Dacian prope-dila / proce-dila is so closed to
Gaulish pempe-dula and the meaning 'cinque folium' for this plant
cannot be ignored
3. Next in Dacian prope-dila / proce-dila we have the patterns :
a) pXXp and
b) pXXk or pXXc^
that could be linked together to a *pXXkW- root using the ideea of
tow dialects: a p-Dialect versus a q-Dialect
=> and because Romanian-Substratum seems to be a p-Dialect too, this
supposition has increased odds to be true.
4. next, you cannot tell me that a *pXXkW- form in the name of
a 'cinque folium' plant has nothing to do with the *penkW- root
5. But, of course, I cannot explain -ro- in prop/proc^ as from a PIE
*-en- < *penkW- : I can only make suppositions here.
6. Putting all these together is not bad to try to find an
explanation for the un-expalined *-ro- in prope-dila: And the n-
rothacism was the first thing that pass trough by head when I have
tried to match an -r- to a PIE *-n-
Strange again (as for the p-Dialect supposition): The n-rothacism is
largely present in Romanian and the Albanian Dialects....
So here I am with this word.
