Alb thekër/thekën `rye, grain' was treated by Meyer (EW 88) as a loan
from Latin seca:le, It segala etc. His view was accepted also by
Pedersen. Barich have tried to link it to Alb thikë `knife', till
Camarda and Jokl have agreed that it is a singularized plural of Alb
thekë `fringe'.
I think that Alb thekën/thekër is related to ON ha: `aftermath, second
cutting of hay', Lith šekas `green fodder', Skt sa:ka- `potherbs,
vegetables', usually consumed by animals and its reconstructed form is
*k'eH1kom. Alb form is probably from zero-grade form *k'H1kom > PAlb
tse1kë, where -n/-r ending points to plural form in -VnV-. (Pokorny
k'e:ko- 544; Mallory-Adams *k'eH1kom 164-165.)
