About the root *ma:k- and its derivatives in Albanian and its
cognate I have write:
*ma:k- `damp, to soak'. Oldest form *meH2k-, colored to *maH2k-,
contracted to *ma:k-. 1. Alb <makë> `film that forms on a liquid,
scum' probably from suffixed zero-grade form *mH2k-eH2. 2. Prefixal
derivative <lë-mashk> `scum indicating spoilage/desease: slime,
mold' probably from metathetic form lë-maksh 3. Zero-grade form is
much more is attested in different place name: Mak-ër-mal, Mak-ër-
esh, Mak-ovc: Old Bulgarian mokr `damp'. 4. Extended suffixed basic
form *ma:k-s-al > Alb <moçal> `bog, fen, swamp' (*ksh > ç, *a: > o):
