Dionysos was nursed by the water nymphs Nysiai.
Heimdallr was begot by seven giantesses.
Skanda-Karttikeya was nursed by the Krttika:s (the Pleiades)
Bhis.ma was reborn as son of River Ganga.

It seems to be a PIE pattern...but, a pattern of what?
