Well, but is this conventional wisdom any more than conventional
prejudice?

In the theory now in favour, the homeland of the IE tribes is around
the Danube delta.

But that means they inhabited an area very near the black Sea, and in
either case they inhabited an area with a great river delta ending in
the Black Sea,

It is higly improbable that a people inhabiting such an area did not
use boats and was not touring the Black Sea.
