Dream and rève

Hello fellow "groupies"!

I´ve been researching the words dream and its french cognate, rève.
What I want to know is if one can say that rève is a development of the
same word which have yielded english revelation. That is, that rève is
shortened from the original word. We actually say that dreams are woven
and that is what makes me think of revelation.

Also, I want to know if any connection between old english dream and
the modern english word has been found. From what I´ve found out so far
old english dream meant ´happiness´, ´song´ or ´joy´. I have a theory
that in really olden times dream took on a meaning of ´happy dream´and
that it had lost all connection with its origin when written down the
first time. The old meaning came back as influences from other nations,
such as the scandinavian lands, grew. How about this theory?

With sunny greetings,

Carl
