PGmc. *gum-an- reflects the zero grade *d(H)g^Hm- (the *u is
epenthetic). In this combination the loss of the dental element must be
very old, since it's confirmed independently by several branches.

The etymology was seriously undermined by Joshua Katz a few years ago.

It's hard to find _any_ examples of this one anywhere in IE.
