Dacian Long Vowels
====================
1. PIE eh1,e: > Dacian a:
============================
1.a
Dacian -da:wa: 'fortress' < PIE *dHeh1-weh2 < PIE *dHeh1 'to set'
(Attested: Argidava, Netindava, Giridava etc..)
1.b Same rule available in PAlbanian
PIE eh1,e: > PAlbanian a: > Alb o
PIE *meh1t > PAlb/Dacian ma:t > Alb mot "year"
NOTE: This Dacian feature seems to be shared with Illyrian but not
with Thracian
2. PIE eh2 > PIE a: > Dacian a:
===============================
2.a
Dacian *Karpa:tya (attested: Karpate:s) 'the Rocky Mountains' < PIE *
(s)k(o)rh1-p-eh2-tyo 'consisting by rock'
Preserved in:
Alb karpë < PIE *(s)korh1-p-eh2 or better *(s)krh1-p-eh2 < PIE (s)
kerh1- 'to cut'
NOTE: Romanian CarpaTi /Karpaci/ shows the regular *tia: > Rom Ti-
/ci-/
NOTE: The preservation of PIE a: in Dacian is confirmed also by the
output of PIE e: that is Dacian a:
NOTE: Long a: evolved to Romanian a and Albanian o
3. PIE eh3,oh,o: > Dacian o:
===============================
3.a Dacian *Akmo:nia 'Stony City' < PIE *h2ek'-mo:n-yo 'stony' /
h2ek'-mo:n- 'stone'
Preserved (not directly) in:
Albanian: kmesë 'sickle' < PAlb/Dacian? akmo:ntya: < PIE *h2ek'-mo:n-
tyeh2
Note: The Long o: passed to -e- (ve-) in Albanian (but the known
exception o:/n) and to short o in Romanian
See Albanian vemjë/dhemjë <-> Romanian omida < PAlb/Dacian o:mida: ~
dz-o:mida: 'caterpillar'
See also : Latin po:mus > Romanian pom <-> Alb pemë
Conclusion:
===========
The Dacian, (P)Albanian and Romanian evolutions fits
perfectly...there is no contradiction until now.
