Matisoff: Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-kret "scratch"
Pokorny has, beside Germ kratzen, Sw. kratta "scratch" etc only
Albanian forms in gr-. Cf. French gratter, also English scratch, Da.
skratte "make a scratching noise". So PST *m-kret/*s-kret "make a
mark" (cf. *m-lyak/*s-lyak "lick" mentioned before)? Would a few PIE
dialects have borrowed a word for making marks? And what kind of
marks? Hm.
