Based on the below meanings of the Skt ks.udrá:
- a base or despicable woman
- a maimed or crippled woman
- a whore, harlot
- a dancing girl
- a quarrelsome woman
Is better that I maintain the initial generality :)
The PIE Meaning of *ksud-ró:
--------------------------------
*ksud-ró 'similar-with a crushed,pulverised object'

Patrick:
I confess I do not know how we really resolve this, one way or another, but
for these examples, a least two of them suggest 'glean' to me: namely,
quarrelsome woman, 'one who combs every situation for the tiniest, really
worthless thing to quarrel about; and maimed or crippled woman, one who is
constrained to glean in order to survive.
As for the others, whore, her relationship with crush seems to me to be
possibly that she
can no longer 'crush'where crushing might be physically desirable.
Sorry, Marius, I just cannot see a convincing case here, particularly with
this stem.
