Dear Marius,
I have written about the outcome of -*r.H1-/-*l.H1- in Albanian, so
just dig deeper and, if for you Watkins' etymology is not plausible,
what the hell I have to said more for myself.
About Place name Giridava I could say that exists also Illyrian Gir-
ona 'mountain', that has as outcome in Sl. Zir-ona (. zf. Zenta > Zeta
from Genta etc.), later calqued in D&rvenik. You may find references
also in Internet.
Maybe Piotr will back you up again and you will be satisfied, despite
the fact noticed by Cimochowski that *wel-no and *kWel-no are proto-
form of Alb. <vjell> and <sjell>, that in times of Greek and Latin
loans in Albanian they have probably form *velo, respectivly *c^elo.
