If your question concerns the etymology of the Volga, the derivation
from the Slavic root *vIlg- 'wet' (cf. Russ. volgnut', Pol. wilgna,c'
'become wet', wilgotny 'moist', wilz.yc' 'moisten'), related to Baltic
*vilg- (both are the nil grades of *welg-, attested also in Germanic),
is indeed frequently offered by etymological dictionaries.
