What about the opposit direction: Russian volk > Lith. vil~kas? ;-)

It can (though Trubetzkoy suggested Baltic *ílga: 'long' rather than
*vílg(-a:) 'humid(ity)' as a possible source of East Slavic *vU"lga),
but the root *vo"lg-/*vI"lg- 'humid' is present in Slavic as well --
eg., Russ. vólglyj 'damp, humid', vológa 'fat soup' (cf. Lith.
válgyti 'eat' < *'eat liquid food'), Polish wilgoc' 'humidity',
hydronym Wilga etc.
