Sure, *h1 closes the syllable but it is really h1:, a _long_ closer, so that
it can surface as <a:>.

This is the classic case of a cake that someone wants to have (consonant)
and eat, too (long vowel).

Would you, by any chance, be interested in purchasing the Brooklyn Bridge?
