large

Got a question today by my own mother what origin there is for large.
Consulted my various dictionaries and all of them give tha answer; from
lat. largus of unknown origin. Now, my question is this, what origin
may be possible for largus? Do we know what the etruscan word for large
was? And by large I mean its original meaning, free, liberal,
bountiful. Is there a celtic influence also, maybe?
