Except discussed examples of *s > j in demonstrative pronouns: <ai>
'he', <ajo> 'she', in possesive <jonë> 'our', in verb <janë> 'they
are' < *sonti, I like to add some more, that I think demonstrate that
we have a regular rule or sound-law of PIE *s > j also in these
examples:
1. *sa:- 'to satisfy' > m•jaft 'enough' < *sH2-to (cf. Lat. satis
'enough', Greek <hadros> 'thick', Germanic *sadaz 'sated', OCS <syt&>
'saturated'. I am unable to explain the origin of epenthetic sound
/f/.
2. *sal-, extended sufixed form *salb-tos > i gjelbtë 'salty',
extended prefixed and suffixed form <i n•gjelm•të> 'salty', <i njel-m>
(cf. Gr. halme). Not only from this example we saw that *s- > gj- and
*s- > j-.
3. *sal- 'salt, dirty grey': lengthened form *sa:l-eH2 > PAlb *sa:la:
> Alb. n•gjollë 'spot, blur', also <njollë> 'id.'. Again we have *s- >
gj- and *s- > -j.
4. *sed- 'to sit' > Alb. jes 'to stay', aor. jeta/mbeta < *sed-yo,
cf. OE sittan 'to sit', Lat. sedere 'to sit', Gr. -hedra 'seat,
chair', OCS <saditi> 'to plant'. As it was mentioned by Pedersen, Alb.
<jetë> 'life' is postverbal of this verb.
5. *sekW- to follow > Alb. n•jek 'to follow, chase, prosecute' with
secondary form <ndjek>, aor. <ndoqa>, but përnjek 'to prosecute,
vicitmize'.
6. * sem- 'one' > Alb. *en- + *sm. > nja 'some' (*m. > /a/),
njani/njëri 'someone', *sm.-ter > t•jatër 'other' (cf. Gr. heteros
'id.')
7. Hebraic <sabbath> that have yielded too Alb. <javë> 'week'.
