That would not yield the attested reflexes. Assuming for the sake of
the argument that one would want to operate with a vowel between the
_s_ and the _m_, the only reconstruction that would yield the
attested reflexes (Cz _jsem_, SCr _sam_ etc.) would be *sUmI,
reflecting earlier **sumi. A hypothetical *som would probably yield
**sU (although linguists will probably go on arguing about the Slavic
Auslautgesetze until the Second Coming).
