Secondly, use of personal pronouns was not any automatismus in
Latin, and is still not so in Italian. The omittance of unstressed
pronouns is the rule.

Therefore beginning to use unstressed personal pronouns also needed
a consciuos decision.

So, the Italians had the choise between two conscious decisions:
Begin using unstresed pronius or using the i-ending from the 4th
declention in all declensions.
