Subject: [tied] The American Heritage Dictionary of Indo-European Roots

I am considering a book of Indo-European roots, (viz.) The American
Heritage Dictionary of Indo-European Roots, but know little of it
except for the information at Amazon.com. I'm familiar with the
content from looking in the back pages of American Heritage
Dictionaries at school, and also from the on-line version of the
dictionary at Bartleby, but I am assuming that this book,
specifically with Indo-European roots, will be more detailed and
include more than the dictionary versions. I was hoping someone here
might be familiar with this book and could tell me what they think of
it, if it's accurate, if it's more detailed than the version in the
back of AHDs, etc. I'd greatly appreciate this. Alternatively, if
anyone knows of a similar book, I'd be glad to hear of it.

Thanks.

The book is virtually the same as what is found in the dictionary.

It is probably as accurate as any other on the subject except that it does not indicate 'laryngeals'; but from the entries, they can be mentally filled in just as they can be from Pokorny.

For study in greater depth, you need Pokorny or something even newer. AHD conveniently references the items in Pokorny under which their own entries are discussed.
