Unusual Phonolgy

I have run into a correspondence between two languages (I think) that puzzles me greatly.

In one language, /¿/ (pharyngeal stop) seems to be corresponding to "cognates"  _written_ z in another.

Presumably, z was /ts/ though it may have been pronounced as /z/ (also possibly /tš/ or even /dž/).

Usually, one finds correspondences that make some phonolgical sense although there are some rather bizarre ones.

Has anyone every read or heard of such a correspondence? The nature of the first element seems secure.

Your input would be greatly appreciated.
