So, the Mediterranean was the Thalassa? The relation between the Greek Sea-gods are still confuse. Okeanos was the Serpent-River who encircles the world (like Midgard Serpent), Pontos was an internal sea. Its identification with Black Sea is archauic or a late development? Remember the the mythical Okeanos was seen later as the Atlantic Ocean.

so far I remember, the Greek used simply the word Pontos instead of
Pontos Euxinos and they refered to the Black Sea.
