I seem to recall that there are doubts about the reality of b7k7. It
has a very limited geographical distribution and dialects that
differentiate between strong 7 and *a, such as Omis^alj on Krk, do
not have the reflex of 7, but that of *a (ba"k, cf. pe"s 'dog') It
has been regarded (I think by Vasmer) as a loan from the Dalmatian
reflex of *vacca, which in Vegliote is something like _bak_ and
appears to mean 'bull'. (I'm quoting by heart, so don't pin me down
on details.)
