I would say, with due caution, that the restoration (or retention) of
non-coloured *-e- as the thematic vowel, is a common feature of (at
least) all the non-Anatolian branches, and is therefore a pre-breakup
phenomenon. There's no contradiction between that and the divergent
development of the laryngeals in the daughter languages. Thematic *-e-
just remained uncoloured, whatever happened to any adjacent laryngeals
(the colouring process itself may well have been over by that time).
