Schrijver's hypothetical "language of bird names" loan donor provides
roots of the type aCC-/CVC- (example German Amsel, Latin
merula "blackbird"). I was wondering if PGerm. *aluT-, with cognates
in Baltic Finnic and Baltic was connected to PIE *lu- "wash,
dissolve" (as in soaking malt?), making up a "bird name" item? It
would put it in the same donor language as *(a)raudh- "red, copper".
