"in order", "clean, "elegant" is a basic meaning of the adjective mundus.
in mundo means "in readiness". The noun mundus means both a woman's toilet
articles, and her process itself of beautification. It also means
implements, especially for the harvest.

It is not difficult to see a connection between mundus and "that which is
set in order".
