Scanner - OCR question

Can anybody recommend a good scanner/printer - OCR software
combination (the existence of the various odd phonetic alphabets
ensures that you can't get sensible answers at the local store)?
I get tired of all the administration of remote library loans,
collections of articles of which only a few is of interest etc.
