As far as I know, PIE diphthong /*ou/ yields in Slavic /u/ (cf.
*bhoudh- > bud-an, bud-iti, causative of *bheudh-; *k^lous- > sluh,
again causative of PIE *k^leu-) and long /*o:/ > /a/: *g^no:- > zna-
k, zna-ti; *k^o:- > sa-k-ica).
