It seems that PAlbanian has prefix g-, which, in some cases is of an
intensive function and in others of a privative one.
Alb. verb <mbledh> `to gather', derived from prefixed form mbë- <
*ambhi- and, probably lengthened o-grade form *log'- of PIE root
*leg'- `to collect', aor. <mblodha> (cf. Lat. le:gi), sub. Geg
<mledhi>, Tosk <mbledhje> `meeting', <përmbledhje> `collection', has
its prefixed form of basic root *z-g-leg'- > Geg <zgiedh>, Tosk.
<zgjedh> `to choose, to select' (cf. Lat. selectare `id.' or Slavic
<bor> `wrinkle' and <izbor> `selection' or even <brati> `to gather'
and <izabrati> `to select'). Exists also noun <gjedhe> `model,
paradigm'.
The same word-formation we have in verb <lidh> `to bind' from PIE
basic root *leig'- and z-g-leig'- > Geg <zgidh>, Tosk <zgjidh> `to
unbind, to dissolve', when this prefix has privative function.
In intensive function I find it also in g- + lend `acorn' > Geg
<ganër>, Tosk <gjëndër> `glandula', Rom. ghindura `id.'.
I believe that first prefix is just allophone of /s/ before voiced
stops, until about prefix g- I don't know is it identical with kë-,
as its voiced allophone before liquids.
Any comments?
