Sorry, I had read: Why would *-o-es > *-o::s and not *-os?

The contraction products generally have circumflex accent in
Greek and Baltic, are raised in Slavic, and sometimes count
as two syllables in Indo-Iranian verse. See the discussion
some weeks ago.
