But the a:-stems D.sg. doesn't show the Saussure's effect (rasà 'dew' --
rãsai, NZ^em. ràs(à) -- ràsâ. unlike sãko 'say(s)' -- sakai~, NZ^em.
sa'.k(&) -- sakâ.; (V) -- reduced vowel, V. -- long vowel, V'. -- long vowel
under expiratory stress, ^ -- broken tone), so they must be inherently
different somehow. NZ^em. corroborates (' -- ictus in reconstructed forms):
ràsâ. (not +rasâ.) points to original *'rasai~ (or -- less probably --
*ra'sai~), while sakâ. (not +sàkâ.) points to *sa'kái.
