Aside from the etymology, just something that came to
mind:

1) "Copt" in Coptic is "Kipti."

2) And there may be something to Keftiu/Cretan and
biblical Kaphtor, since Kind David employed
"Cherethite" guards, and in the reign of Saul there
was a "negeb" of the Cretans in Palestine (1 Samuel
30:14).
