In the Romanian <mic> and <pic> word families [m/p+ik] never
turns into [m/p+itz]. Coincidental or not, a [ik]<->[itz]
relationship we find in Hungarian <pici> ['pi-Ti] "tiny, wee,
small, little" (with the diminutival <picurka> ['pi-Tur-kO]
[Pitzurca, a well-known name in the Romanian soccer world :-]]).

Also note the onomatopeic <pic-pic-pic>, both for rain
drops (and any other kind of liquid drops falling) and
for... pecking with the beak (here, I'd point to the
Rum. verb <a piguli> "to pick (up) with the beak"). Then
<a pica> "to fall, to drop". Then <picatura> "drop(let)".
Then <picatzea, picatzele> "spot, blotch".

<un pic> "a little; a moment"

(I don't know whether German <mickerig>, <mickrig> "weak,
sickly, poor, shriveled, shrunken", i.e. ... "small" (i.e.
reduced in size, appearance) is or isn't related to the
Rum. & al. <[mik]> group.)
