Not *very* similar. If there are *mesal- and *ams(V)l- 'merula,
Amsel', it only means that prefixing of a morpheme *a- reduced the
following part of the word. I do not think there has been made any
theory identifying the two -a-'s, so nothing is becoming an infix
here. I am not *very* familiar with it though, so show me if I'm
wrong.
