I've just changed the file so that it chiefly consists of words and
rules. Javascript and boilerplate text are now in the sister file
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/richard.wordingham/sounds/sounds.js.
This makes it easier if you want to code up your own rules. For
example, my evolving set of Albanian rules (coded up from Piotr's
lecture series) already used the file sounds.js. It also makes it
easier to add documentation to all sound change lists at once.
However, if you call up the copy on my website to define the script,
do keep a back-up copy in case my website disappears!

The Javascript has been enhanced to allow comments with the
ancestral words. (The rules already have a comment facility.) When
I prepare the tests for revised rules, the ancestral words text area
will consist of lines such as

lignum // lemn

so that I can more easily check that I get the right result.

I hope to start improving the rules this weekend.

Richard.
