postposing Indo-Aryan

Hello:

I have another question, this time about Modern Indic (Indo-Aryan/Indo-European Indian) structure.  I have several Gujarati coworkers, and they have been teaching some phrases (not repeatable in polite company, though).  One of the things that I've noticed is that the adposition seems to come after the phrase that it governs.  Is that unique to Gujarati, or is that a feature of most/all modern Indo-Aryan languages.

Were the earlier stages of Indo-Aryan postposing or preposing, and, if they were preposing, what factors would have acted to change the word order?

Thanks a lot:
