Attic reduplication in the perfect is much easier to explain if we allow
HR-e-HR, despite s-est-. I know this is not universally accepted, but
something similar may be happening in the present: clusters with a
laryngeal reduplicate with the laryngeal, clusters without, reduplicate just
a single consonant.

I'd need to support this with other examples. I'll get back to you later on
this.
