Armenian labiovelars (and not velars) are palatalized before front vowels
(examples given by Jens).
Additionally, Armenian shows that *kW etc. were indeed labialized, as can
be seen in the development *kWo- > *po- > o- (*kWos > o "who?", *kWolso >
oLn "spine, back") and the o/u colouring of syllabic liquids after
labiovelars, *p and *w, as in Olsen's examples: *gWr. > kur (kerakur <
*gWerh3ogWr.- "food"), *gWl. > kul (ekul "swallowed" < *h1e-gWl.h1-et),
*kWr.- > or- (ordn "worm" < *kWr.(t)mn-), *kWl.h1- > (h)olo- (holow
"rolling" < *kWl.h1ti-, oloRn "pea" < * kWl.h1-r-n-) [the normal
developments have a-vocalism].
Pre-Armenian had a whole series of labialized consonants, with peculiar
reflexes in attested Armenian (e.g. *dW- > (e)rk-, *pW/*tW/*sW/*kW > k`).
