I think ATLAS (ATLANT-) is a pre-Greek name, whose Greek analysis is clearly a folk-etymology. Perhaps the same root of name ATALANTA. The same can be true for almost all Titans. Suffix -AS (-ANT-) is very common in Giants' and Titans' names: Mimas, Gigas, Gyas, Phorbas, Pallas.

By that, you mean the IE *tel@?  That's what I thought Atlas derived
from, although I wasn't sure if the a- was the prefix for "not" or if
it was something else.  Is that the case?
