Hardly credible.
In Lokasenna (Loki's invective) - and Loki was my patron when I was
young - we read that many Vanir were accused of coprophilia and
scatophagy. Sotty to mention similar perversions. It was said that
Njo"rdhr was used as piss-vessel by his female servants. Loki was
there inspired by toxic hydromel with stramonium and amanitha
muscaria infused. Prove it, it gives strange effects!
But despite of this, Vanir had certainly high opinion of theirselves.
So a connection with a deprivative Latin /va:nus/ is so improbable
that it's idle to discuss it anymore.
It's an extreme attempt to find IE connection for anything, even for
Klingonian and Vulcanian!
We'f better to dismiss them all as "vain" and to put an end to this
senseless Affentheater!
Sincerely
Marco
