No, it's my sloppy mistake. It's read like that in the present-day
Standard Russian (where unstressed o's pronounced [a] or [/\]) -- not
in the 12th c. Novgorodian dialect.

The river's name is (Standard Old Russian) _VUlxovU_, (Krivichian)
_VUlUxovU_ (cf. _voloxU_ 'Vlach' with different vocalism). The
etymology is obscure, probably from some Baltic Finnic form akin to
Finnish _Olhava_.
