Hello George,
Seems that you are in the same situation as M. Iacomi.

You cannot say 'a correct' 'tri', and you never used it, but you
are an expert in the Romanian NW dialect.

As spelling or writing, I propose you to write it with
as 'triiiii' or 'trijjjj' in place of 'trii' or 'trij', maybe by
adding more 'i' or 'j' the DIPHTONG will appear in this case...

And maybe I and the people there will start to pronounce like you
(or others like you) wrote.

If this will not happens ...of course we are not pronounce as it
is writen by the people that never pronounce it...so will be not
correct, isn't it?

A great part of romanian linguistic was written by the people in
the same situation like you and M. Iacomi (Graur, Iordan, etc...)

Regards,
marius

P.S. : I already saw you messages here regarding the meaning
of 'pom', and its equivalence with 'copac', and the use of 'arbore'
in NW part of the country....now I can add to your skills the
spelling of 'tri'
