Searching now through GOOGLE I found surnames like Ivanashvili (<Ivan ?), Davidashvili, Danielashvili. -a- seems to be the main connective, right?

Yes.  s^vili = son, child.  What comes before it (e.g. Dz^uga-) doesn't
stand in the genitive (which would be Dz^ugais), so it looks like simple
apposition.
