The Rigveda says quite clearly that Soma was made by pressing stems
etc of some sort of leafy plant. Thus it was not any metal, and it is
not a toadstool. --- Here goes --- there is linguistic and
archaeological evidence that it was a gymnospermous bush called
ephedra.
As regards what language was spoken by the SSVC: I read once that
archaeologists in Pakistan found two gambling dices with pictures on
their 6 sides. They looked for a language where the names of those
objects resembled the words for the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 :: the result
was Dravidian.
