Just remembered how Coptic was abandoned for Arabic in Egypt.
The Copts didn't all die. Their descendents just speak Arabic now,
that's all. They "abandoned" their language by as late as the
17th century AD if I recall correctly.

There's a good chance that his child's vocabulary will be nonetheless
more riddled with foreign words than Alex' vocabulary is now as
the adult Alex Jr accesses the internet wirelessly on some portable
device I can't even begin to imagine yet... or perhaps the world will
just explode violently into a ball of hellish fire and everyone will be
dead. Personally, I think language displacement is a happier future :)
