I'm _sure_ it derives from various subtypes of the "<habban> + pp."
construction, including its experiential and causative variants. Actual
OE examples certainly suggest such a thing, as I suppose Larry Trask
would agree. In the textbook he may have presented a simplified sketch
of the situation, focussing exclusively on the stative/possessive
construction for didactic reasons.
