How is the connection made? Pokorny has it as a separate root
(#1617), not one of the more impressive ones, although it meets the
three branch test if one allows a bit of reaching down (German
_rebe_, Dutch _rave_ 'vine'; Belorussian (?) _rapuxa_, Polish
_ropucha_ 'toad'). Baltic seems solid enough. I assume the
suggestion is metathesis *serp ~ *srep.

Is the vowel length in Latin (re:p-o;, -ere 'creep, crawl') and Old
Prussian (_ri:paiti_ 'followed') explained?
