>of Grk. skulax, Ir. cuile:n, Lith. kale: "puppy, bitch" (*skeu-l-,
>*skeu-n-?).
What do *skeu-l- and *skeu-n- mean? Coincidentally or not,
in Romanian "a schel&l&i, -ire, -it" and "a scheuna, -are, -at;"
ind. pres. 3rd pers. singular: "schiaun&;" substantives:
"scheunat + schiaun", "chiau" + vb. "a chefni, -ire, -it" -- all
of them are seen as onomatopoeic wailings (except for chefnit
and chiau, that are short barks).
Or are these related to *(s)kwel5, record no. 1726 (Pokorny)?
