Jerome'S vulgata was finished in 405 AC. At that time it was still Latin
after 600 years of occupation in celtic-iberospace and after 300 years
of ocupation in Thracian space. That means the V century AC and the
vulgata was still very latin , no Proto-Romance. It was the ordinary
vulgar Latin spoken.
I don't speak here about WestRomance, just about Eastern Romance. We
have a excelently control instrument here for Latin because of the
Slavic moevment. The Slavs moved in the area of Latin speaking people
(the language was _stil_ latin at that time and the people _must_ have
spoken latin for understanding "vulgata", and no ProtoRomance). And
from that point on, you will have all the phonological laws puzzled away
by the historical events because they do not fit anymore. And that is
funny...
