But on the basis of some ancient toponyms, Trubachov
has argued that they may have been Thracian. In any
event, the current "scientific wisdom" is that most
Cimmerians did not in fact leave their old country,
but were assimilated by the Royal Scythians, and the
latter were certainly Iranic.******
